LOGO8_3World Association for Sport Management, WASM, was established on April 27, 2012 at Aletheia University in Taiwan. Presidents and representatives of the six continental associations of sport management (NASSM, EASM, SMAANZ, AASM, ALGEDE, and ASMA) presented at the meeting. They formally adopted the Constitution and founded the WASM. Presidents and delegates were Bob Baker (NASSM President-Elect) and Karen Danylchuk (NASSM delegate), Mikel Urdangarin (EASM President) and Ruth Crabtree (EASM delegate), Paul Jonson (SMAANZ President) and Graham Cuskelly (SMAANZ delegate), Nilmanee Sriboon (AASM President) and Munehiko Harada (AASM delegate), Rosa Lopez de D’Amico (ALGEDE President) and Rosa Medina (ALGEDE delegate), and Mwangi Peter Wanderi (ASMA delegate). Other founding supporters—Brenda Pitts and James Zhang (NASSM), Antje Diertens (EASM), David Shilbury (SMAANZ), Kong Ting Yeh (AASM), Yang (Noah) Hsu (AASM) were also presented and witnessed the important occasion.

An Executive was elected composed of Paul Jonson (SMAANZ) as President, Karen Danylchuk (NASSM) as Vice-President, Ruth Crabtree (EASM) as Secretary, and Nilmanee Sriboon (AASM) as Treasurer. Aletheia University was appointed as the Secretariat, andYang (Noah) Hsu from Aletheia University was appointed the Executive Director of the Secretariat. The meeting was held in conjunction with the 2012 Global Sport Management Summit.

The Board, consisting of two representatives from each of the six continental associations, Bob Baker (NASSM President-Elect) and Karen Danylchuk (WASM Vice-President and NASSM delegate), Mikel Urdangarin (EASM President) and Ruth Crabtree (WASM Secretary and EASM delegate), Paul Jonson (WASM President and SMAANZ President) and Graham Cuskelly (SMAANZ delegate), Nilmanee Sriboon (WASM Treasurer and AASM President) and Munehiko Harada (AASM delegate), Rosa Lopez de D’Amico (ALGEDE President), and Mwangi Peter Wanderi (ASMA delegate), along with other founding supporters—Brenda Pitts and James Zhang (NASSM), Antje Diertens (EASM), David Shilbury (SMAANZ), Kong Ting Yeh (AASM), Yang (Noah) Hsu (AASM) have begun work on various aspects of the new organization, such as a communications plan, funding model, and future WASM conference and journal.

The mission of this newly established organization is to facilitate sport management research, teaching and learning excellence and professional practice. WASM will provide a forum for the international perspective on sport management for the Continental Associations, International Sport Federations, Non-government organizations, Institutions of Higher Education, Academics, Students, the Sport Management industry and professionals, National Associations and other affiliated organizations for sport management.
